USPS 2023 John Lewis Forever® Stamps – Set of 5 Sheets (100 Stamps)

Honor the extraordinary life, historic achievements, and enduring legacy of one of America's most influential civil rights leaders with the USPS 2023 John Lewis Forever® Stamps Set of 5 Sheets, totaling 100 stamps. Officially issued by the United States Postal Service on July 21, 2023, this distinguished commemorative release celebrates John Lewis (1940–2020), the respected civil rights activist, United States Congressman, and lifelong advocate for equality, justice, and nonviolent social change. As a prominent leader of the American civil rights movement, Lewis participated in historic efforts to challenge racial segregation and expand voting rights, including the Freedom Rides of 1961, the March on Washington in 1963, and the Selma voting rights movement of 1965. His dedication to peaceful activism and public service continued throughout his remarkable career, including more than three decades representing Georgia's Fifth Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives. Issued on the anniversary of his passing, this meaningful USPS release honors his contributions to American history and recognizes the lasting influence of his commitment to civil rights, civic participation, and human dignity.

This set includes five complete sheets of 20 Forever® stamps each, for a total of 100 stamps, featuring one distinguished commemorative portrait design repeated throughout each sheet. Created under the artistic direction of USPS art director Ethel Kessler, the stamp presents a dignified image of Congressman John Lewis, capturing the warmth, determination, and thoughtful presence associated with his public life. The carefully composed portrait emphasizes his recognizable features and conveys a sense of historical importance, creating a refined tribute to a significant figure in twentieth- and twenty-first-century American history. The design's restrained presentation allows the portrait to remain the central focus, reflecting the respect and recognition associated with commemorative stamps honoring notable Americans. Combining historical portraiture, thoughtful graphic design, and the longstanding USPS tradition of recognizing individuals who have made important contributions to the nation, this official release offers a meaningful visual remembrance of John Lewis and his enduring place in American history.

An exceptional addition to any distinguished stamp collection, the 2023 John Lewis Forever® Stamps Set of 5 Sheets brings together American civil rights history, congressional service, historical portraiture, and philatelic heritage in one remarkable commemorative offering. Whether preserved as part of an American history collection, displayed in recognition of the civil rights movement, or treasured by historians, educators, collectors of notable American figures, and philatelists alike, this five-sheet set of 100 USPS Forever® stamps offers a lasting tribute to John Lewis's contributions to the nation. A meaningful commemoration of a lifetime devoted to nonviolent activism, public service, and the pursuit of equal rights, this official USPS release represents a distinguished addition to collections honoring American leadership, historic achievements, and the individuals who helped shape the nation's continuing civil rights history.
